In my discussion section today, the subject was metadata. I tried to start a discussion about the gulf between traditional catalogers and new information science professionals working on metadata, as well as my thoughts on what I saw as the fundamental mistakes that professional catalogers are making in their attempts to at times blindly apply their tools and traditions to newer digital media.
The class looked at me like I was speaking Portuguese.
Then we spent the remaining half hour making a Dublin Core record for a web page about a bed and breakfast.
Sometimes I wonder if I should just try harder to nap instead of talking.
