I remembered the Transformers Movie being pretty dark, but I didn't remember Unicron wiping out an entire planet and civilization before the opening credits even roll.

It's not clear whether I'm more or less able to face the death of Optimus Prime at age 26 than age 6.

1986 was probably not my best year - I saw the Space Shuttle Challenger blow up in person too.
